Cubbon Park is home to an incredible variety of flora, with over 6,000 trees representing roughly 96 species. Lalbagh Botanical Garden is a historic botanical garden in Bengaluru, featuring India's largest collection of tropical plants, a 19th-century Glass House, and the 3-billion-year-old Lalbagh Rock. Today, while “Cubbon Park” remains the name on everyone’s lips, the official name stands as a testament to the city’s royal heritage.

• Now that pumped up my excitement and from here began our “Statue Trail” in Cubbon park.
• Initially, the area was a barren landscape, but Sankey envisioned a sprawling botanical garden that would serve as a focal point for the city’s administrative district.

Again, the park was renamed in 1927 as Sri Chamarajendra Park in memory of the 19th-century ruler Sri Chamarajendra Wodeyar. This park is known for its landscaping, which is integrated well with the natural rocks, trees, bamboo, etc. So Bangaloreans like me who still havent visited this park, you know what you are missing. For example which species of trees blooms in which side of the park. Here we saw two mobile libraries parked outside the library.

Another ornamental tree that finds a place in this park is the tropical tree delonix, known more commonly as the gulmohar tree. Cubbon Park also comprises of ornamental trees such as Grevillea Robusta (silver oaks), the first one imported from Australia in the entire of Bangalore. Some of the local species found in this park are artocarpus, cassia fistula, ficus, polyalthias Sri Chamarajendra Park etc. The park boasts of 6000 plants of 96 species belonging to around 68 categories.

For instance, it is the only Indian zoo that has all three species of Rhino i.e. white, black and Indian rhino. The area of the zoo was again extended to over 80 acres over a period of few years. Although initially the area of zoo was 10.3 acres, in 1907, an additional area of 6.22 acres was merged with the zoo, while later it was again increases to an area of 45 acres. In 1948, the administration of zoo was shifted to Horticulture department from palace. This was done in respect to the king Chamarajendra Wadiyar Bahadur whose efforts led to the establishment of this zoo. It was later called as Palace Zoological gardens.

If you plan to take a safari tour or visit specialized pavilions (such as the aquarium or nocturnal house), it is better to plan a half-day visit. To see most of the enclosures and enjoy a leisurely walk along the shady alleys, we recommend setting aside at least 3–5 hours. The zoo was initiated by Maharaja Sri Chamaraja Wodeyar X, who originally envisioned it as a private menagerie on the grounds of his summer palace.

Iyer Hall, with a rose garden in front, is another historic building, which now houses the State Central Library alias Seshadri Iyer Memorial Library. Historical and aesthetic buildings are a feature of this park. There are many ornamental and exotic trees and plants lining the roads of Cubbon Park.
